PELL CITY, Alabama — St. Clair County Sheriff Terry Surles talks about Alabama’s new gun law and how his office handles pistol permits.” Surles has hired an additional person to handle pistol permits and says he calls the parents of 18 and 19 years olds before issuing a pistol permit.

The new law allows persons 18 and older to apply for a pistol permit. In the state of Alabama those 18 years and older can purchase a shotgun or rifle but federal law requires a person be 21 years old to purchase a handgun. What are your thoughts?
